Modulated Micro-Lasers

fotoMostra

The idea of this research line is that intracavity photonic crystals, with spatial filtering functionality, can significantly improve the beam spatial quality of micro lasers, such as microchip lasers, or semiconductor edge-emitting lasers. We explore different concepts of photonic crystal filtering, based on axisymmetric photonic crystals, on PT-symmetric photonic structures, and others in order to tailor the radiation from such micro-lasers: to improve the beam quality, to increase brightness, and suppress spatial instabilies, and to tame regimes of light turbulence. The development along that research line reached the stage of industrial application. Together with laser companies we develop on Photonic Crystal Microchip Laser, as well as Photonic Crystal Semiconductor Laser in order to bring the concept to the market (HIP-Laser Eurostars project).
